Featuring a design built for use in and above the water, the HoverAir AQUA is the first of its kind — a flying camera drone that’s safe to use for water activities. Most drones die over the water. The AQUA thrives.

HoverAir, and its competitors, make some badass drones that can automatically follow you around, and capture video and pictures of your exploits. It’s perfect for those hiking, biking, or crazy outdoor adventures you want to capture with professional-quality video tracks. But there’s one huge, waving weakness. Water. Water is the kryptonite of most drones. And it sucks because water is also a great place to have some high-octane action going on, and capture amazing shots. Well, HoverAir heard our proverbial grouching and has the answer. HoverAir AQUA is the world’s first water-born flying camera. Not only is it waterproof, and can take shots of you on the water, but also it can take off and land in water. How freaking awesome is that?

It’s the first of its kind. It features an IP67 waterproof rating with a design that has natural buoyancy. So, it will rest and float on the water’s surface. Speaking of the surface, that’s where everything starts and ends. It can take off from water at any angle. If it’s upside down, it will right itself and then take off. Moreover, it can land in water, too. When the battery is low, it will descend to the water’s surface so you can retrieve it. Plus, it’s equipped with GPS tracking so you’ll never lose it.

What exactly is the HoverAir AQUA?

Equipped with a 4K 100 frames-per-second camera, with slow-motion video, from a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor and hydrophobic lens, the HoverAIR AQUA can capture your water adventures in full glory. With the battery, it offers a 23-minute flight time and reaches top speeds up to 55 kilometers-per-hour, or about 34 miles per hour. We all know things can get pretty hair out on the water, especially in the ocean. That’s why it has level 7 wind resistance, up to 33 knots, for stable flight even in tough conditions.

A 1.6-inch AMOLED display built-in allows you to preview shots, while leaving your phone back on the shore in safety. You can also adjust settings as needed out in the field. Physical buttons allow you to interact with the software — they needed to be physical since it’s water-based.

AI-powered tracking keeps you in frame and in focus at all times, with over 15 automated flight modes to choose from. One even rests the drone on the water’s surface and points the camera down, underwater, to capture snorkeling or shallow water swims. The drone won’t submerge. It stays floating on the surface.

Perhaps the coolest bit is that you control it using an arm-based wearable called the Lighthouse. It offers hands-free operation with virtual tether safety. Each Lighthouse is keyed to a single drone, so you can have multiple in use at a time. The Lighthouse doesn’t cost extra, and it’s not an added accessory, it comes bundled with your AQUA.

It’s launching soon, sometime in the fourth quarter of 2025, but the IndieGoGo page is live now. Go check it out. Early backers save up to 40% on the full cost — you can pre-order for $999 instead of $1,299.

As I’ve said before, we don’t usually like to cover IndieGoGo or crowdfunded products, but HoverAir is a renowned brand with a great track record. The AQUA is scheduled to launch in Q4, 2025.
