You fill the one-liter spirit bottles with your strong beverage of choice, like rum, vodka, or whiskey. You also fill the 1.5-liter water reservoir, which is used to help mix the capsule ingredients and adjust the strength. When you’re ready to mix, insert a cocktail capsule, choose your strength — mocktail, light, regular, or strong — then press Mix on the touchscreen. You can use any spirit brand, premium to affordable and the system self-cleans between cocktails. I love that they’re not locking you into using a specific type of alcohol here.

Apparently, Bartesian was originally designed for use in luxury hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues, to make drink-mixing quick. The machine, or rather, multiple machines, are now available at home. I say multiple because Bartesian also offers some other options, including the smaller Duet, The Bartesian and the Professional, the focus of this article. I picked the Pro model because it offers commercial-grade materials and design, huge capacity bottles for making up to 60 drinks before it needs reloading, and the touchscreen selection process.

Capsules include high-quality real juice, bitters and extracts which mix with the liquids in varying amounts, depending on what strength you pick. If you want a stronger drink you get a stronger drink. I don’t know about that but, as I said, I love that you have the freedom to choose your spirits, and I like that there’s a bottle lock incorporated. You can lock down the bottles so they can’t be removed. That’s a great idea to keep curious underage family members from nabbing the refillable bottles if you have your regular liquor stores locked away.
