Fonus is the world’s first truly global wireless carrier to offer unlimited data, calls, and texts in over 100 countries. There are no roaming fees, no contracts, and no SIM swaps needed. Just turn your phone on and travel.
Anyone who’s ever traveled knows just how much of a pain it is to try to organize wireless service from country to country. Sure, some of the big wireless carriers allow you to take your plan internationally, but the process for doing so is anything but intuitive. What if things were different? What if staying connected while you travel was as easy as turning on your phone and keeping it with you? That’s the idea behind Fonus, the world’s first truly global wireless carrier to offer unlimited access in over 100 countries. It sounds pretty crazy, right? Even better, there are no roaming fees in supported countries, no contracts to sign or lock in, and you never have to do a SIM swap while you’re traveling. That last feature is also crazy, but it’s possible thanks to flexible eSIM and physical SIM options.
Starting at $20 per month, all the Fonus wireless plans include unlimited data, calls and texts. Now, the disclaimer there is that there are some countries that aren’t supported yet. You can see the full list of countries on the Fonus Mobile website. While 5G blazing-fast speeds are only available in select countries, where it’s applicable you can access 5G data networks. That’s kind of a big deal, too, because no one wants to deal with slow or intermittent wireless coverage. In addition to the high-speed data, you also get WiFi calling and texts in areas with bad reception, as well as mobile hotspots on Android and iOS. In those 100 countries, you can stay as long as you like, with no roaming. You can also make calls to over 85 countries with no-long distance fees of any kind.
Why would you use a global wireless carrier like Fonus?
When you’re traveling, the process for connecting to and accessing most wireless networks can be pretty involved. You may have to buy or swap phones, swap out SIM cards if your existing phone is supported, and you’re still subject to roaming fees and other variable costs. It would be so much nicer, and easier, if you could just use your phone as you do when you’re back in your home country, regardless of where you are. That’s precisely how Fonus is designed to work. A brainchild of Canadian entrepreneur Simon Tian, Fonus is certainly an innovative solution in what can otherwise be a challenging wireless landscape.
Plans range from $20 up to $50 per month — the latter is for the World Unlimited Max plan. But let’s take a look at what you get with the base, $20 plan, called Wireless Unlimited Starter. You’ll get unlimited data, calls and texting in over 100 countries with no roaming fees whatsoever. Plus, unlimited international calls to over 85 countries, from anywhere. Data includes 5G or 4G LTE speeds, where available, with 3G-equivalent speeds after you use 5GB of data. The plan also supports both physical SIM and eSIM varieties, with visual voicemail activated, as well. The next tier up, World Unlimited Plus at $30 per month, boosts your slower data cap to 20GB, while World Unlimited Max gets rid of it entirely. I would have loved to have something like this available during my trip to the Dominican Republic last year.
Why do you care? Take your phone virtually anywhere, with the list of 100 supported countries spanning the entire globe. And you don’t have to worry about added fees, losing service or data access, or running into communication issues. While all of the costs and charges are listed in U.S. dollars here, Fonus does offer support for international currencies, as well.
