Controller grips are one of those odd products that require hands-on experience to understand why they’re valuable. I’m not saying that to convince you to run out and buy them. I’m saying that because it’s true. Especially with controllers like those that come with the Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S. They already come with a wrist lanyard, so what more do you need?

But they are incredibly valuable. I’m very happy and satisfied with the G4 Pro upgraded grips from KIWI Design, and I’m here to share why.

Why buy the KIWI Design G4 Pro upgraded controller grips?

The Meta Quest 3 and 3S controllers are slippery. For someone older, like me, that’s not really a big deal. I can use the VR and remain remotely aware that I’m holding controllers in my hands. But for someone like my children, that’s not always the case. Even with the wrist lanyards, tightened or not, those controllers tend to fly around. That’s not good. It’s not good because the controllers are expensive to replace if they break. It’s not good because those flying controllers can break other things in your house, like a TV.

At any rate, the VR controllers for most systems are the same way. That’s where controller grips come into the equation, like KIWI Design’s G4 Pro upgraded controller grips. For starters, they have a much more pleasant texture, but the silicone design also offers a more secure grip. They’re also anti-slip and reduce discomfort from hand sweat — which plagues even the best of us. But most importantly, they come with their own adjustable knuckle straps to keep those things firmly in your hands, where they should be. Even better, they’re still compatible with the stock lanyard for the controllers, so you get double protection.

What else can the G4 Pro upgraded Meta Quest controller grips do?

Another unique feature is that they effectively replace the battery cover on the controller. An integrated silicone battery door plugs into the port to hold the batteries firmly in place. But it’s also much easier to open when you need to change out the batteries. That’s valuable because the Meta Quest controllers burn through batteries like nobody’s business — you’ll be changing them often.

The grips are comfortable and easier on the hands and skin, and the silicone materials don’t hinder signal strength. These are wireless controllers we’re talking about so signal strength is a big deal, too.

Okay, so what’s the price?

With an MRSP of $40, it might give you pause. But KIWI Design does a great job of offering deals and discounts, so you’ll probably see them for less. Right now, for example, they’re discounted with an additional 20% off coupon available.

Is it worth that price? Yes, I think so. Would I pay that price, knowing how they improve the experience? Yes, I would. But that’s the trick, isn’t it? You have to get past those initial thoughts. They don’t seem valuable — or maybe they do to you — but I can attest that they absolutely are. They have vastly improved my family’s experience with the Meta Quest 3S and I will never use the system without some kind of grips on the controllers. That’s how strongly I feel about them.
