The Polymega Remix is a physical system that allows you to backup your retro games for use on-the-go. Play your games on Steam Deck, desktop, a laptop, or more. Plus, you can plug original controllers right into the unit using custom modules.

There’s a lot of talk about how emulation is piracy and big companies do their best to crush websites that support it. Regardless of how you feel about it, there’s no denying that the world of video games have advanced considerably, pushing into more digital experiences over physical. Backing up your games is a solid way to preserve those experiences. It’s good to have physical retro games to play at home, yes, but when you’re on the move, digital is king. The Polymega Remix aims to help you with that by providing a backup system for retro gaming on-the-go. Simply connect the base system via USB, launch the Polymega app, and install your retro game collection.

It can backup CDs or DVDs from PlayStation 1, Sega Saturn, Sega CD, Mega CD, 32XCD, Neo Geo CD, TurboGrafx-CD, PC-Engine CD, and native Polymega collection games. It can also backup cartridges from NES, Famicom, SNES, Super Famicom, Genesis, Mega Drive, 32X, TurboGrafx-16, PC-Engine, Nintendo 64, and Atari 2600 and 7800. Plug the base unit into any USB system, including laptops, desktops, even Steam Deck, and backup your games. You can also plug original controllers right into the Polymega system via modules for a more authentic experience.

What else should you know about the Polymega Remix?

One thing to note is that for all the cartridge game backups you’ll need a separate “module.” Those are sold separately and there are different versions for each system. For example, EM01 is for the NES and Famicom games. Those look to be about $79 a piece which is a bit much. But hey, that’s the price you pay for reliable retro gaming on the go I suppose. Now, keep in mind, these modules are only necessary if you want to plug the original controller right into the system so you don’t need them all and you certainly don’t need them if you’re playing another way.

There are some that would argue, why would you need anything like this? Okay, I hear you, and you’re probably right, but just because. Oh, and it comes with a multi-region universal power supply you can take with you on your travels.

Who is it for?

Gamers, retro gamers, console collectors, Steam Deck owners, emulation enthusiasts, and everyone who wants to play the classics anywhere, anytime.
