The Carvera Air from Makera is a desktop CNC machine for milling at home or in a workshop. You can work with any material and create anything in a clean, reliable space.

CNC milling, if you didn’t know, is a unique creative process that involves subtracting or removing pieces to manufacture, well, anything you want. It uses computer-controlled rotating and cutting tools to remove wood, metal, or various materials to make a component, object or part. You could use a machine to make chess pieces, parts for electronics or model cars, metal tools, you name it. Typically, CNC machines are bulky, super expensive and commercially available. Makera has done something a little different and downsized the machines and technology with the Carvera Air. It’s a desktop CNC machine that you can place in a workshop or office to precisely create virtually anything.

Carvera Air, specifically, is a smart and precise desktop tool that administers CNC milling to materials like wood, metal, and beyond. You use a combination of available software and AI tools to create blueprints of the parts you want. It’s similar to how you’d use a 3D printer. The difference, of course, is that the chunk of the material goes inside the machine. Carvera Air then uses the built-in tools to carve away the excess. Versus a 3D printer which “prints” or extrudes material to create it.

What can you do with a desktop cnc machine?

The CNC machine can engrave, etch, chip away, slice, rotate or cut. That allows it to do things like etch circuits into PCBs, make metal parts for drones, robots, and RC cars, create decorations, or carve jewelry and artwork. You can even create realistic 3D models. Want to take a hunk of wood you found and turn it into a 3D topographic map? Yep, you can do exactly that.

The Carvera Air can work with wood, plastic, aluminum, copper, brass, carbon fiber, wax, PCBs, epoxy and a wide range of additional materials. Moreover, it comes with a series of tools that can be easily swapped out in seconds to match the job. Additional features include auto calibration, 4th axis support, optional laser modules, external dust collection to keep the space clean, app and software remote controls, and a high-speed 13,000 RPM motor.

In the box you get the Carvera Air desktop CNC machine, a pair of safety goggles, spare bits, a power cable, an emergency stop button and much more. You also get a case with brackets, clamps, screws, spare tool bits and extra components. Those are all tucked inside and neatly organized. Plus, an epoxy tooling board, aluminum plate, plastic board, single and double-sided PCBs, MDF waste board and a hand saw — all to get you started right away. This thing is a beast.

Who is it for?
