The Veno Palm Vein Recognition smart locks use a unique pattern-recognition feature to unlock the door, scanning the veins in your palm and authenticating your identity using your unique biometric pattern. Of course, there are several other ways to unlock these smart locks, too.

You can open smart locks with physical keys. You can open them with an app on your phone. Most of the time, you can also open them with a custom key, provided the lock has a built-in keypad or comes with one that syncs. But have you ever used your hand, waving at the lock basically, to open your door? I know it sounds wild, but it’s possible thanks to a company called Lockin and its Veno Palm Vein Recognition smart locks.

There are three primary models, the Veno Pro ($380), the Veno Plus ($300) and the Veno ($250). Veno uses a unique visual detection system that allows you to wave your hand in front of it. It can detect your pattern when your hand is wet, oily, dusty, or even wrinkled due to age or other conditions. Say you’ve been soaking in the neighbor’s hot tub for a long time and your hand is extra pruny. The lock should still open.

There are six unlocking methods total, so you don’t have to use your palm. You can also use your fingerprint, enter a pin code, use a traditional physical key, use your voice with a compatible assistant, or use the app. It supports Matter, Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, and more. You can also sync up other smart home devices like lights, your AC and more, so that when you unlock and open your door it triggers a unique event — like turning on foyer lights so you can see.

What else can the Veno palm recognition smart locks do?

The standard Veno will last for up to seven months of use with low-battery alerts so you know when it’s time to charge. But, if for some reason you forget and still need to get in, you can plug in a power bank and unlock it with an Emergency Power Boost mode in just 15 seconds. The bottom button slides out of the way for a hidden backup key slot, too, so you can always physically unlock if you need to. You can also hook up a solar panel, which is optional and sold separately, but it’s a great way to reduce battery charges even further. That’s $70 so it’s priced reasonably.

The Veno locks are tough, too. They are BHMA Grade 2, meaning better residential security and durability than Grade 3 locks, and IP65 dust and water-resistant. Lockin says it will perform and survive in rain, snow, and temperatures as cold as -22 degrees Fahrenheit.

Additional features include auto-lock with customizable settings for the wait duration, remote unlock options, remote guest access with logging for user unlocks, built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and the premium models (Pro and Plus) have built-in storage. But you don’t need a subscription or AI hub for any of the models, including the base Veno.
