I don’t normally cover crowdfunded campaigns here at Techigar. It’s not because I have anything against them, but I prefer to focus on tangible products that are available now, or soon really. There’s not much sense in waiting years for something to launch, when there’s never a guarantee of said launch in the first place. But I’m changing my tune today to highlight Propel, the world’s first and only five-in-one electric modular watercraft. Available to fund on IndieGoGo, the campaign has already surpassed its $50,000 initially fixed goal and raised over $179,000 — more than 300% of its goal. That’s impressive, but even more impressive is what this craft actually does.

A portable and modular electric watercraft with five modes

Propel is designed to grow with you, allowing you swap effortlessly between the five available modes to do whatever activity you prefer, on the water, of course. It’s an E-scooter (beginner), E-SUP board (novice), E-scooter with E-foil (confident), E-foil (advanced) and Jet Kart (everyone). The same core chassis, battery and motor powers each mode, so there’s no need to lug tons of extra gear around with you. You can make mode changes in as little as five minutes, no extra tools needed.

Basically, everything starts from the inflatable board. You make sure that’s laid out, then insert the Modular Universal Chassis — which houses the battery, motor and controls — and inflate the board. Then, you can attach extra components required for the mode you choose, like handlebars, a foil propulsion system or a thruster motor for the Jet Kart.

You don’t have to buy anything separately, either. The system comes with all the components you need to swap between the five modes.

Explain the five Propel modes

If you’re not familiar with these types of watercraft, this quick list gives you a primer of what each mode offers, and who it’s for:

  • E-scooter – An upright electric watercraft, similar to a land scooter, where riders stand and use handlebars for stability. Excellent for beginners learning to balance, and getting family with controls and cruising speeds.
  • E-SUP – A more relaxed, stand-up electric paddleboard with no handlebars. Excellent for casual rides on the lake, fitness and exercise routines, and flatwater adventures. Great for novice riders who are still honing their board skills.
  • E-Scooter with E-Foil – An upright electric watercraft with handlebars for enhanced stability and easier lift-off thanks to the foil propulsion. Ideal for first time water-riders who have a little more confidence staying balanced.
  • E-foil – A traditional, free-flowing electric foil experience that’s powerful, silent, and agile. Great for workouts and water-day fun. Best for more advanced users with prior E-foil experience who want to carve out an adventurous experience and explore.
  • Jet Kart – A fully seated go-kart style ride on the water with intuitive, fast-paced movement. Excellent for all ages, different mobility levels, and any strength or fitness caliber.

Why is Propel innovative?

You mean besides the fact that we’ve never seen anything like this before? Propel was founded by Jason Toth, a former professional snowboarder with lots of experience. He’s worked with some big names, too, like Burton, Volcom, and Oakley. Wanting to make water adventures safer and more accessible for all, he teamed up with GP87 Inc. and Blue Sea Watersports to create the Propel board.

If you want to get into any of these sports, it’s going to cost you quite a bit of money to buy the equipment. More than that, it’s going to take lots of time, maybe even extra professional lessons, to learn how to ride. This five-in-one system allows you to swap between them easily when you’re on land. But you can start wherever you’re comfortable and that means learning each watersport on your terms.

Plus, with the 50.4 volt (50 amp-hour) battery, the Propel board should last for up to three hours in E-foil mode, which the company says is two to three times longer than most comparable electric boards. With the E-SUP and Jet Kart modes, you can expect anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes of ride time, depending on rider weight, travel speeds, and local conditions. If you fall off while riding, a magnetic leash shuts off the motor. Moreover, a quick two-hour charge can get you back in the water quickly.

How much does it cost?

The price is pretty hefty, at least at first glance. But when you consider that you’re getting five watercraft systems in one, it makes a little more sense. Starting at $7,277 for the Early Bird package, there are several options, ranging up to $26,995 and each bundle comes with a unique perk. By pre-ordering through IndieGoGo you’ll save up to 42% off retail, so now’s a great time to get in if you know you’ll want one at launch. They’re scheduled to hit the market sometime in May 2026 if everything stays on schedule.
