I’m not at all suggesting you should buy a DIY home online, but if you decide to, that’s your prerogative. I stumbled upon something while browsing, and it piqued my interest. I find it absolutely fascinating that you can purchase prefabricated homes on Amazon, and they ship to wherever you need within four to five weeks!

For example, this 40-foot double story flat pack house includes a spacious design, bathroom, and kitchen — for only $65,000. Yes, you would have to buy a plot of land to install it beforehand, with prep, including water access, and electric.

What’s most fascinating is that the home is customizable to your needs. It has a galvanized steel frame that’s both fireproof and waterproof, as you might expect. But the customizable layouts mean you can swap between one to three rooms, and adjust kitchens, bathrooms, and interior configurations to match what your family wants or needs. It’s essentially a portable home, and the listing says it’s “easy to assemble,” which is pretty neat. That’s not the only type of home like this available on Amazon, however.

There is another two story 20-foot to 40-foot home on Amazon, and it’s a flexible modular three bedroom, two bathroom villa. Also for around $65,000. It features a galvanized steel frame, which seems to be a common thread for these modular homes. Customizable layouts, like the one above, allow you to tailor the architecture and design to your liking. More importantly, it’s crafted to be energy efficient thanks to advanced insulation, fireproof glass wool roofing, superior temperature controls, and overall a smart design.

While someone did say they would “love to review,” one of these homes, the reviews are few and far between on both. Although, some owners of the first home did say they love to pack up their home and move it around. Can you imagine? Just disassemble when you’re ready to move on, toss it all into the back of a truck, and head to whatever destination you’re liking in the moment. Of course, it’s not like livable land is abundantly available for plopping down a home like this, or is it?

There are also shipping container style homes, as well as cheaper prefabs for around $10,000 or so.

I wish I had known this before I built my patio. Hell, I might even still see if I can get approval to install something like this in my yard. But Amazon also carries a 12 feet by 14 feet hardtop sun room with detachable windows. It’s only $4,000, but as of the time of writing, you can also clip a $250 off on-page coupon, which is pretty wild.

I am curious how something like this would hold up here in Florida, where the winds get pretty darn strong during hurricane season. Even if there’s no major storm, the wind can get to be pretty fast and whip things around — Florida is pretty much flat. The windows have netting that helps air to circulate so it won’t get too hot. But the privacy screen also helps keep critters and bugs out when you want to enjoy the fresh air. This one has an aluminum frame, but a galvanized steel top — there’s that steel again.

At any rate, I just thought it was an interesting thing to share. Maybe the next time you’re in the market for a prefabricated or portable home you could check out Amazon?
