Not too long ago I covered a product from Grant Sinclair called the GamerCard. It’s a super slim, badass little Raspberry Pi powered handheld that has a truly innovative design. It’s in such a small form factor the idea is that it will show up on displays in the checkout lane at retail stores, like grocery stores, similar to gift cards on a rack. Anyway, at the time some of the information was scarce and outside of a few animated images we didn’t get to see much gameplay. The team recently updated some YouTube shorts to show off the console in action and I wanted to provide a quick update here.
Unwrapping the GamerCard gift pack
In the first video we can see a demonstration of the sleek GamerCard console being unpackaged. Ooo ahhh look how sweet that is. Nice presentation, too.
Playing a game on the console: Saboteur
In the next video we can see a game being played on the console, in this case Saboteur II: Avenging Angel from the retro days of yore.
Showing off the built-in game launcher
This video walks us through the stock launcher on the device, which is what you’ll be using to select your games and adjust various system settings. Listen to the clickety clack of those buttons, too.
Some PICO-8 driving games
This video shows off some of the PICO-8 driving games that come pre-installed. We see Pico Racer, Brutal Race, Off Road, World Race, and Night Ride. The audio sounds awesome, as well, and the acoustics in that room must be great.
