Amazon Prime Day is usually around the beginning of July. That’s pretty much the same each year. But for Prime Day this year, they’ve extended it to four days — instead of its usual two — which, in my opinion, is ridiculous. No one needed an extra two days to shop. Running from July 8 to July 11, you’ll be able to save on crazy deals. Nothing new there. It’s just longer.

While I’ve always been involved with commerce initiatives in some way, I wanted to make it clear that I’m going to be handling the event differently this year. Primarily because I’m doing my own thing now on Techigar, but also because I’m not a greedy, money-hungry person. That’s a huge contrast from some of the big publishers which push money-money-money and sponsored campaigns to bring in as much as possible.

So, how will you be covering Prime Day this year?

I might do a little extra coverage depending on what I find, but my focus will simply be on sharing a few great deals on products that I either personally use, have used, or would love to own. I’m not going to be waving my arms in the air and shouting about every super low deal under the sun, available across every retailer imaginable. The big publishers, on the other hand, will be doing exactly that. They want to push out as much as possible to maximize exposure, maximize clicks and maximize revenue — I’m sure you’ve noticed.

The content world is a very different place now than it used to be, and has been for years. Backroom deals, paid promotions, influencers, social media, it’s all glitz and glamour and most of the big sites only care about clicks and revenue. When you click on affiliate links spaced throughout their content, it generates them money, not just for clicks or views, but also commissions, too.

Prime Day this year should focus on quality over quantity

We use affiliate links here at Techigar, don’t get me wrong, but we don’t choose coverage, products in round-ups, or reviews based on what will make us the most money — or even money at all. I cover what’s interesting and if it has an affiliate portal, great. If not, oh well.

The point is I’ll be choosing quality over quantity when it comes to available deals and I won’t be bombarding everyone, every hour of the day, all four days with offers, promotions, and sales. I don’t have the large team to make that happen even if I wanted, but team or no team, that’s never going to be the goal of Techigar.

Some will care, some won’t, but I figured it was important to share either way. I’m sure you’ll be drowning in Prime Day coverage this year no matter where you browse.

Most of the best deals will be for Prime Members, so if you’re not already a member, subscribe if you want to shop those. If you don’t have the money to pay for a subscription currently, or just don’t want to, there will be a ton of deals available at other retailers, too, including Walmart, Best Buy, and beyond.

Happy deal hunting everyone.
